"Bumper Card Society?"
Ok Vanda.....I think I figured out how to do this...LOL I have a problem though...
I don't know anyone who blogs except you :( I don't want to tag you, since you tagged me. Does anyone out there in cyberworld want to be one of my blog buddies?
Sometimes I just feel so darn "blog" lonely....LOL
"Rotoprone Bed"
Here is the picture of the Rotoprone bed. It's the bed that I learned about while in San Antonio. It looks scarey. The patient is all strapped in and well sedated of course. The bed totally rotates them so that they are face down to the floor. Helps re-expand those sick lungs of their's and mobilize their secretions. It can also be really scarey to the nurse if you don't know alot about the bed.
"Hairspray"
OMG........you gotta see this movie. Loved it. Loved the cast, loved the music. While watching "Hairspray", you just wanted to get up to sing and dance. Newcomer Nikki Blonsky was great playing the part of "Tracey Turnblad." John Travolta in drag, what can I say? He played the part of "Edna Turnblad" wonderfully and I actually saw him tranform himself into her. The rest of the cast was amazing, Michell Pheiffer as "Velma Von Tussle," Queen Latifah as "Motormouth Mabelle," Amanda Bynes as "Penny Pinkleton," Christopher Walken as "Wilbur Turnblad," James Marsden as "Corny Collins," Elijah Kelly as "Seaweed", and Zac Efron as "Link Larkin."
If you want to see a movie that's fun, toe tapping and has a good message to it, head to the nearest theater. You won't regret it.

KCI conference
KCI is a company that we use at our hospital for Vac wound dressings and the Roto-prone bed. They invite medical professionals to come to their company and learn about these products and why/when to use them. Their company is in San Antonio, Texas. We were treated very well during our stay. We were met at the airport by Richard and our driver Joe. Joe is a history buff and really enjoyed telling us some of the history of San Antonio. KCI treated us to dinner and drinks the first night. Next morning was the conference with breakfast and lunch. The Roto-prone bed was of big interest to everyone attending. Why and when to use it......all our questions were answered and I understand the use much, much better. I will have to see if Sunya has a picture of the bed so that all who are reading this will understand what I am talking about. After the conference, everyone else headed to the airport (we went with them), but, we didn't have to get off the bus. We had another nights stay (at KCI's expense) because they couldn't get us a flight out that night. LUCKY for us!!! More exploring. The Riverwalk was fun, lots of restaurants, lively people, lots of lights. That evening we headed to the mexican market and to Mi Tieros mexican restaurant. I had a wonderful time.
The roto-prone bed is used for patients with acute lung injuries, ARDS. The bed actually turns the patient from lying on their back to lying on their abdomen, plus at the same time it rotates them side to side. It helps with the mobilizing of secretions and lets the back of the lungs get re-expanded.

"Who had the better view?"
"The Alamo"
The Alamo is widely recognized as a symbol of heroic courage in the stuggle against oppression. It began as a simple spanish mission.......
The 1st picture is of the memorial for the texans that fought against the mexicans in the battle of the Alamo. The next pictures are of the Alamo (the chapel) and Deb standing in front of the barracks. March 6th, 1836 began the battle of the Alamo.

"Drink please"
After a nice stroll to the Alamo, we were headed back to our hotel and it started raining pretty hard and our packed umbrellas were still packed. LOL We decided to stop by the Buckhorn Saloon. Deb had a couple of beers......and, I had 2 fuzzy navels. Do you think that somebody liked to hunt in this place??
Mexican market
After the conference, all of the other nurses/Dr had to leave directly from the KCI building to the airport. We went to the airport with them, but luckily we were going back to our hotel for another nights stay. KCI couldn't get us out on a flight that evening, so we enjoyed another evening of sight seeing in San Antonio.
On to the Mexican Market to look at all the mexican crafts and eat at the restaurant that our driver, Joe had recommended. The restaurant was very colorful, the food was great and the margaritas, oh so wonderful.

Did I forget to mention how smart and grown up Kaleb is? Here he is driving his grandpa's pick up truck and in the second picture I am lecturing him on driving and the hazards of driving while talking on the cell phone. I don't think he liked my suggestions. Kids!! LOL That's grandpa in the first picture.
Guess who's here? It's KALEB!!!!
Guess who came to see us this weekend? Kaleb!! Of course I may be alittle bit partial, but he is one cute little great nephew. Last time he visited he just sat on our laps......but, no more. He is one big bundle of energy. He is just learning to walk and is all over the place. He's got those big blue eyes which are to die for. Here he is........

"Sicko"
To any of my blog friends out there.....
I just saw the movie "Sicko" by Michael Moore. Just in case you are not familiar with the movie.....it is a look at the american healthcare system. We are one of the only countries in the world that does not a national healthcare system. Many in our country cannot afford to seek medical care. Many thousands die each year.
Can you tell me....how is your national healthcare? Does it work for you? Do you get to see the doctor in a timely manner? Does it take a long time to get elective surgeries done? Are your taxes high? Do you think you get good, quality care? How much do your medicines cost?
The cost of healthcare is outrageous over this way. People can't afford their medicines. People can't afford to go to the doctor. How do we start to change things? Any suggestions??

"Never Gonna Give You Up"
Can you tell how old one is by what kind of music they listen to? I consider myself pretty up to date with listening to the latest music, top 40 (except for rap, metal and twangy country music). I can listen to Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, PDiddy on the radio but I would probably never buy their cd. As I was deciding what cd's to put in my iPod, I went up to my spare bedroom looking for a cd which I thought I had. I wanted to put "Cruel, Cruel Summer" on my iPod. I knew that I had a Bananarama cd somewhere and thought this song was on the cd. When I found the cd, it wasn't the one with this song. It was another one of their cd's. As I was looking thru the box I came across more cd's from the 80's. I had forgotten about them. So, guess what? Rick Astley ("Never Gonna Give You Up"), Lisa Stansfield ("Been around the World"), Basia ("Cruising for Bruising"), Bananarama ("I Heard A Rumor").......and who could forget Tears for Fears ("Shout") are now on my iPod. Brings back memories, old times.....I really forgot how much that I liked this music. Wonder what these musicians are doing now?

Sad, so sad.......
Today I sit in sadness for a young lady that I never met. A long-time friend in Miami sent me an email this morning letting me know that his daughter committed suicide saturday night. I am sad for her family. No one will ever understand the grief that they will be going thru. I am sad for her sister, who I think is one year older. Not having her sister around will be very hard. You expect to grow old with your sister, reliving memories of your childhood, your boyfriends, school days and growing up. Memories of your future children/husband/family. Of course, there is her father to think about. As a parent you expect to see your child grow from an innocent child to a mature adult. You don't expect to bury your child. Life teaches us that parents die first, then their children.
Most of all, I feel sorry for this young lady. What was going on in her deepest thoughts to trigger something horrible like this? Her father.....her sister.....her mother are all hurting, but the hurt that this young woman felt deep, deep down must have been the worst pain that anyone could ever imagine.
There is more to this story, things that I can't print. Yes, she was in therapy.
Her dad said she had her good days, along with the bad. As a nurse, I don't understand depression, I don't understand mental illness. I don't understand what goes on so deep in the brain that by killing herself can bring you the peace that you so long for.
Sarah......I don't know you. I hope you are at peace now, your mind at rest. Your family will continue on but I know in their hearts they will carry your memory with them forever.

"Drop em"
"Drop em"
When I first started my nursing career, I worked in a very small hospital somewhere in south florida. I was working in the emergency room and when giving injections I always noticed that there was a difference between the men and the women. The women were very modest and would just show me the upper corner of where I was giving the shot.....but, the men........they always "dropped em" without me even asking. LOL
A little "Nurse" humor...
You Might Be a Nurse if...
- when using a public restroom, you wash your hands with soap for a full minute and turn off the faucets with your elbows.
-- when you tell a man you meet for the first time you're a nurse, you're expected to laugh hysterically when he asks you for a sponge bath, as if it was the most original and wittiest thing you've ever heard.
-- your favorite dream is the one where you leave a mess at a patient's bedside and tell a doctor to clean it up.
-- men assume you must be great in bed because of the 9 billion porn movies about nurses.
-- everyone, including complete strangers, tells you about each and every ache and pain they have.
-- you want to put your foot through the TV screen every time you see a nurse on a soap opera doing nothing but talking on the phone and flirting with doctors.
-- you can almost SEE the germs on doorknobs and telephones.
-- you can watch the goriest movie and eat anything afterwards, even spaghetti with lots of tomato sauce.
-- you use a plastic 30cc medicine cup for a shot glass.
